Collectors' Blogs

Short and sweet today, as I recuperate:

A while back I offered the same advice to collectors I find myself increasingly offering to artists, which is to get your images up on a blog. It's a great, free online catalog; it helps you focus on what you're doing; and, most importantly, it fosters a dialog about what you're making or what you're collecting. Now, I shouldn't take credit for the idea. The supersmart collector and the heart and brains behind Mixed Greens, Paige West, has had a blog (Art Addict) for quite some time, but I am pleased to see other collectors take the plunge, including The Destitute Collector, which is off to a very impressive start, and the very newly launched and refreshingly written The Crionna Collection. Check 'em out, and please list others you know of.

Oh, and other collectors, don't be the last one on your block to start your own!

UPDATE: Even though I tend to think of Mike@MAO more as an opinion maker and quiz master, I was clearly temporarily (?) insane not to include the spectacularly entertaining and information collector's blog Modern Art Obsession in my original post. It should be on your daily must-read list, if it's not already.

Hey Ed, it's pretty cool that Chuck Close reads your blog. Hope Pulse went well. See you in a couple of weeks when I'm in NY.

er...uh...well, my first (and true) excuse for the unforgiveable lapse is that I think of you more as a mover/shaker/opinionmaker now than a collector (and, well, you've yet to introduce yourself, even though I now see we were at the same Sikkema Jenkins after party, or invite us to see your collection)

and my second (and equally true) excuse is that my brain is pure mush at the moment.

correction on its way...

Thanks, Nice recovery Ed!

Plus it's ok, I'm pretty use to getting ignored by high end CHELSEA art dealers!! ;-)

Yes the after party.. MJ is a friend, he's been filling my head & home with art for a while now. Tried to say hello.. but you always had a crowd of your adoring fans around you.

Hey Ed,
I came across this art collectors blog a while back.

Unfortunately they seem to have gone on a vacation from posting for a few months. But, there is an archive of material and some images to look at and some worth while information.

No. You!

Yikes! Thank you. Truly. I appreciate the support, but must say that (at the risk of sounding like humble mumble) I am not worthy. When I grow up (in blog land) I want to be just like Ed.

I don't know Paige...you paved the way. Your post on how to collect (Buy what you love, but) set the bar pretty high for no bs advice and hasn't been reached yet for honesty and insightfulness, IMO.
